Train Collides with Dump Truck
A train-dump truck collision caused a diesel fuel spill about 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, at a railroad crossing on Stoney Hollow Road in Ohio.
The train slammed into the large truck as it was backing up across the railroad tracks. The truck, struck on the passenger side, slid down the tracks about 200 yards, leaking fuel all the way. The train accident is still being investigated.
The truck driver was driven to Miami Valley Hospital, where officials report he was being treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Environmental Protection Agency was called. Luckily, rocks beside the tracks helped prevent the fuel from spilling into a stream nearby, said officials who were at the accident site.
"All things considered," said District Chief James Rose of the Dayton Fire Department, "this had a positive outcome. You see that a truck, a large truck, the way it is twisted and pushed down the tracks like a piece of tinfoil. No match for a locomotive."
