Several Charged for False LIRR Disability Claims

Several people have been charged with criminal fraud for their alleged involvement in false Long Island Rail Road employee occupational disability claims that were filed with and paid out by the Railroad Retirement Board.

Among those that have been charged are a former president of a UTU local, two physicians, six retired Long Island Rail Road workers and a former Railroad Retirement Board Employee.

According to the complaint, hundreds of Long Island Rail Road retirees filed false occupational disability claims that were approved by the Railroad Retirement Board.

The physicians are being charged with preparing false documents. The complaint alleges that the doctors falsified nearly 1,100 disability claims and were paid as much as $1,200 per assessment and narrative as well as collected fees for what the complaint calls "unnecessary treatments."
