NTSB Discussed Fatigue Management

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) made safety recommendations for improving rail, bus and aviation safety in its "Most Wanted" transportation safety improvements.

Among its recommendations, the NTSB said individuals who operate trains, buses and airplanes must have sufficient time off so they can obtain enough sleep. According to the NTSB, if the operators of these heavy machines do not get enough quality rest, passengers on board might be at risk.

The NTSB said in order to prevent accidents from occurring, employers should engage in fatigue management systems so employees will know how to better identify fatigue. In many cases, people might not be aware that they are fatigued or might deny that their abilities are impaired.
